Evergreen Principals Continue to Refuse Raises

An article in The Columbian last week (click here to read it) outlined the recent decision by principals in Vancouver Public Schools to forgo raises for a third straight year. What the article failed to mention is that principals in Clark County’s largest school district have done the same thing.

Principals and associate principals – the Evergreen Administrators Association – for Evergreen Public Schools have made concessions that go a long way toward helping the district balance its budget.

Here are a few of the ways the district has saved:

  • Salary freezes for 2009-10, 2010-11, and 2011-12 school years
  • Incremental increase (experience) freezes for 2009-10 and 2011-12 school years
  • Suspension of professional development funds for 2011-12 school year
  • Suspension of professional organization dues payments for 2011-12 school year

In all, the EAA has helped the district save $680,000. That’s roughly ten percent of the annual salary for those represented by the EAA.
