The Evergreen Public Schools (EPS) board of directors voted to name Dr. John Steach as the district's next superintendent. Steach will take over the position when current superintendent John Deeder retires on July 31st.

Dr. Steach is currently the district's Deputy Superintendent, a position he's held since coming to EPS in 2014.

"Following John Deeder, who has set the bar extremely high, is an exciting challenge," said Steach. "He's leaving behind a foundation, structure, and team capable of overcoming all current and future challenges. As our demographics change and technology evolves, we will be ready to support all our students."

Before coming to EPS, Steach earned a Doctor of Education from Washington State University and was an active member of the Richland, Washington school board prior to becoming that district's deputy superintendent. He served three years as superintendent of the Canby (OR) School District before accepting his current position in EPS.

EPS School Board president Victoria Bradford said she and the rest of the board of directors were excited to make this move. "The board was involved in selecting John Steach as the deputy superintendent and, after what's been a three-year interview, we feel that he aligns perfectly with the board's vision for the future of our district. We aren't interested in changing course right now and we believe John will help us continue to move forward with our important initiatives."
