What is an SLP?

  1. Complete a High School and Beyond Plan
Students will develop a plan for meeting high school graduation requirements and for connecting successfully to their next steps in life. A student’s plan should include the classes needed in preparation for a 2- or 4-year college, vocational or technical school, certificate program or the workforce.

  1. Earn a minimum of 22.5 credits
Students are required to earn credits in English, math, science (including one lab), social studies, health and fitness, visual or performing arts, occupational education and electives.

  1. Earn a Certificate of Academic Achievement or Individual Achievement. (WASL Testing)
The Certificate of Academic Achievement (CAA) or Certificate of Individual Achievement (CIA – special education students) can be met by meeting the state’s reading, writing and math standards on the High School WASL. Up until 2013, students can earn a diploma without a CAA or CIA certificate if they meet the state’s reading and writing standards, and earn math credits and test annually until graduation.

Click here for more information about the WASL test and CAA or CIA
  1. Culminating Project
This integrated learning project helps students understand the connection between school and the real world. Culminating Project work may include a portfolio collection, studying topics of interest, engaging in meaningful career internships, writing research papers, multi-media presentations, and participation in civic activities.
