Class teaches about influences of food ads

Washington State University Clark County Extension is offering a free class to teach families how to be aware of the influences of food advertising.  The FoodMania Media Literacy class is for children ages 9 to 14 and their parents.  Each class will include an interactive lesson for adults and youth, dinner and a $25.00 grocery store gift card.  In addition to education about food advertising, participants will learn how to make healthy eating choices.  Classes will take place 5:30-8:00 PM Wednesdays from October 5th through November 9th at CASEE, 11104 NE 149th St., Brush Prairie.  The deadline to sign up for classes is Sept. 30th.  Those who are interested in the topic, but unable to make the classes, may be eligible to participate in a survey for $30.00 in gift cards.  To sign up, contact Erin Middlewood at 360-397-6060 or erin.middlewood@clark.wa.gov

HeLa Parents, we need YOU!

The Hela High Parent Booster Club is having its first meeting to kick off the year on Wednesday, September 21, 7 PM in the Hela cafeteria.  This organization was started to support the students and teachers at Hela through fundraising and activities.  We need your help!  If you have an interest in serving as an officer (or know someone who would be great) please contact Sharon Bate at helabc16@gmail.com.  We will need to elect officers at the first meeting in order to renew our status as a Washington charity by October 31.  Of course if you aren’t able to serve as an officer we would still love your help and ideas!  Many hands make light work, so please come out and support your kids and their amazing school!

Hela Booster Club meetings (and senior parent committee) meetings will be on the 3rd Wednesday of every month through May, 7 pm at Hela High cafeteria.  Please put these dates on your calendar and plan to help your school.

Back to School Night! Tuesday, September 27th 5:30 - 7:00

Make the most of back-to-school night. It's a valuable opportunity to learn important information about your child's classroom experience. This is an “Open House” experience, where teachers will be in their classrooms to interact and engage parents in dialogue about their teaching methodology, vision, and how they grade and the requirements for a good grade.
