Referrals for Highly Capable Programs (EXCEL) now being accepted

Do you know a student in grades one through eight who might benefit from a curriculum tailored for highly capable students? Evergreen Public Schools is currently accepting referrals for the district’s Highly Capable Programs (EXCEL) for the 2008-2009 school year.

EXCEL programs are designed to address the unique academic, social and emotional needs of academically gifted learners including a curriculum with a faster pace and greater depth/complexity.

In order to ensure their readiness, one requirement is that students demonstrate high academic achievement of at least one year above their grade level. Students in grades one through seven will be tested on Saturdays in January and February for possible placement in the 2008-2009 school year.

Anyone may refer a student, including parents, teachers, other students and members of the community. Pre-referral forms and this year’s referral packet are available by clicking HERE or contact the Highly Capable Program Liaison at the child’s school. The Highly Capable Program office can be contacted at: 604.4001.

Referrals must be returned to the building liaison by Wednesday, November 28, 2007. They will not be accepted after that date.
