Pacific Middle Schools Orchestra will perform a community "Thank You" concert
On Monday, June 2, the Pacific Middle School Orchestra will perform a special Community "Thank You" concert in appreciation for the support and assistance provided after a music room fire which occurred earlier this school year. The concert will be housed in the large gym and will begin at 7:00 p.m.
The fire destroyed two portable classrooms, one of which housed the music room. Student instruments were being stored in the room and most were unsalvageable. "It was a devastating incident for all of us," said Lori Brosius, who teaches the orchestra class at Pacific. "However, the community outpouring of support was overwhelming and showed just what amazing generosity is available when people see a need."
Instrument donations and loans poured in from organizations and ordinary citizens from Clark County and the Portland area. The school kept track of everyone who contributed and offered help and they all received special invitations to the community concert.
"This is a way to demonstrate not only our gratitude, but also that despite the fire, this program continues and that students are passionate about pursuing music. We did not let this hold us down," said Brosius.
The event is open to the public and is free of charge.
Pacific Middle School is located at 2017 NE 172nd Ave., Vancouver.
