What Is a Comprehensive Assessment System?
A comprehensive assessment system is designed to give meaningful, timely information that supports student learning. It includes a variety of tools—like classroom checks for understanding, projects, and tests—that help teachers, students, and families know how learning is going and where support may be needed.
What does Comprehensive Assessment Look Like in EPS?
In EPS, we believe that our assessment system must also be built to be respectful of students’ time and goals. We are reviewing our practices to ensure assessments are purposeful, focused, and are used to guide instruction—not just to measure it.
For the 2025-2026 school year, our assessment priorities include:
● Aligning assessment to instructional standards
● Supporting schools and teaching teams in reviewing and using their data for next steps in learning
● Working with staff and students to create feedback loops that make assessments more useful and meaningful
As we continue refining our assessment practices, each decision will be made in service of our most important asset: our students. By keeping students’ learning at the center, our assessment system will ensure that every student gets the support they need to grow and succeed.
